Flipping heck - my recent forum ride from Settle took us down that descent and I commented then how scary it was ...

I believe they were a day or so behind us, and news of the accident reached us at one of the B&B's we were staying at.
Quite a shock as you can imagine. The weather was absolutely terrible. Heavy rain and high winds made it very difficult

I know that area from motorcyle trips. It can be very tricky indeed. RIP and condolences to her family & friends.

The rider that died was riding in the same organised LEJOG trip that friend of mine was on.

I had a "heart in my mouth" moment when I saw the BBC headline ... my friend is female and 40 - and I knew she would have been somewhere around there at that time.

The rest of the group had the difficult decision to make ... but, in my view, did the right thing and carried on to JOG.

I've ridden the road in question, both ways ... and driven it, and even driving was a challenge.
