Riding after "the snip"

Discussion in 'Beginners' started by RichardWHardwick, 21 Feb 2012.

  1. I had a vasectomy yesterday. It was done with local anaesthetic which was a bit surreal as I was completely awake all the time and couldnt feel a thing. It was all chat chat chat, snip snip snip.
I feel okay now - a little tender but really not much.
I haven't been out on my bike much recently, am desperate to get going again and was wondering how long others think I should give it. Of course, I don't tend to sit on my knackers when riding but some of you must have timed it right, and wrong.
    Any experience/tips to share?

When I had mine done it was keyhole, there was just a little nick where they went in. I needed about a week to feel confident. The tenderness went aftera day or two, but didnt like to risk any squashing. My doc told me to just go on how I feel.
Oh and to wear tight briefs too for a while.

Having difficulty seeing what I'm typing here (as my eyes are watering so much).

Not had the pleasure myself but for my mate it was like building up saddle tolerance all over again. He was however able to continue riding as long as we had regular pub, I mean, rest stops

I think If I typed what I really think about this I'd be banned.

I wasn't cycling at the time, but had a pretty bad experience due to complications. Sitting on a bike would have been the furthest thing from my thoughts, for quite some time.

From my experience don't try to do anything too quickly and listen to what the doctor said. I ended up with an abcess very quickly through decorating the front room the day after I had mine done. Not very pleasant but there you go.

Had a vasectomy back in '93 on a Thursday and was out on my bits n bobs racer on the Sunday.
Had it reversed in 2001 but no bike so can't say apart fom prob a week if I had the chance.
Had 2nd vasectomy 3 years ago (general anaesthetic this time) and I'm sure they twatted me with a rounders bat - couldn't look an Aubergine in the eye for weeks.

Guys who have had the snip will have many different stories to tell. Some seem to have had a horrendous time, and suffered quite badly.

For me It was an absolute doddle. Had a dull ache for a few days, but was certainly back on my bike within a week.

Its one of those things where we will all fair differently.

I'm sure I remember reading a previous thread some where, may be on here, about some one who had the op, his lift didn't turn up so he cycled home

Had the same op on 30th November.

I found that after a couple of days, it felt like I could have cycled had I wanted to, but I did leave it a week to be safe. Subject matter of the operation were the last pieces of me I would want to aggravate !!

I then got a bad chest which kept me off the bike, then I needed the car at work for a whole week, and before I knew where I was it was Christmas.

Aching stopped after day two, for me.

I got lucky with mine and was mobile very quickly, however my bro in law picked up an infection when his was done and had he been a cyclist, he would have needed one of those large baskets on the front to carry a pair of melons in

Oh balls (literally), wife popped the question last night. Feel like a bloody pin cushion as it is with steriod injections. Said I'd get it sorted when this 'hissing' about with my shoulder is sorted. So what's the score - pop to GP, ask about it, go where - local hospital ? (waiting list times) How long does it take, I suppose it's in, out back into work ? Did you book a day off leave ?

Can do without time off the bike - might wait till the end of the season.

    I feel sick ! xx(

And in all seriousness to the OP, My old man was fine after having it done, barely affected him at all. seems everyone is slightly different.
