Unfortunately I'm no longer a young un, I'm looking at getting my 10 year old son a new bike. Very nearly bought an Islabike Luath on ebay last night. He's not specifically after a road/cross bike, but wants something to help him enjoy cycling more. He's not had a new bike before, so far he's had 3 bikes all second hand to his older brother before him. He current bike is a approx 15 year old Raleigh Max MTB, which is extremely heavy. It functions and enables us to get out as a family but he doesn't like the bike. His elder brother is extremely happy with the Decathlon Rockrider MTB purchased last year. So question to the forum is, any recommendations? Should I keep hunting on ebay, or just get to the shops?
why not go to the shops, see what is around/what your son likes. then checkout ebay, websites see what offers are about. would not rule out a second visit to bike shop to see if a deal could be done. happy hunting
Have a look on sterling house website. They deliver free most times. Don't be pushed into paying over the odds from the usual shops. Find one he likes then google it and see if there are any places you get can the bike cheaper
Decathalon, make a Btwin Triban 3 junior road bike for £199, nice bike, I have a Triban road bike and they are value for money
Not sure how much you want to spend, but Dawes do an Espoir bike in 24" or 26" wheel size: http://www.all-about-the-home.co.uk...junior-road-bike---fully-assembled-5305-p.asp
My youngest has a Ridgeback mx24. Very versatile bike. We've toured on it as well as been down red graded trails, just a change of tyres needed.
