Cheapest 5 mile commuting bike(on flat roads)thats any good?

being wise in your choice and looking practically at what you require you can get away with it.

For Decathlon good, cheap and geared how about this for £150?

If I were in the OP's shoes I would probably go for this for £130, but it is SS. Advantage is he can take it with him pretty much anywhere, and he might be able to travel lighter since a heavy, expensive lock may not become necessary.

The £150 Original 3 looks decent, albeit a bit odd

Bought my wife the B'Twin Original 5 for christmas and she has had plenty of fun riding the Trans Pennine Trail on it. Sturdy bit of kit so far. . . I agree that it looks odd though

I believe the 3 speed roadster is a fantastic option for the flatter commute . We Americans would have been lost in Schwinnland were it not for the Raleigh Sports and Phillips you so kindly sent our way .
