Been commuting for over 30 years, and have been doing manual work for all that time, I only struggle if I've been ill and I am recovering.

I'm sat on my arse all day, so I always try to work up a sweat on the commute.

If I have a really busy day planned at work I will almost always NOT cycle in.

I don't really know why, Perhaps feel it adds another level of organisation that I don't need to worry about if I just jump on the motorbike. Its daft though, because I wlways feel sharper and "on game" when I cycle in.

I would add that you job requires a lot of travel in traffic so perhaps you suffer from some sort of congestion fatigue and just would rather zone out on a train. I'd stick at it, at least for a summer and see how you feel then.

The more you do it the easier you'll find it.
